Alain Sussfeld has spent his entire career working in the French film industry. He started with UGC in 1972, the year following its privatization, and has overseen its growth to one of the largest cinemagraphic, film production and distribution companies in Europe. Their latest release this past February, the sequel to the 2014 hit movie “Qu’est-ce qu’on a fait au bon Dieu?” has already topped the charts. Over the years, Alain Sussfeld has dealt with the different movements and trends within the film industry, in France and from abroad (the arrival of Canal +, the development & decline of the DVD, TV series, and now streaming movies). He can provide some insight into the current rivalries and weaknesses of the industry and the perception in France, contrary to the US, of cinema as a form of societal interest which creates a certain collective understanding. With undergraduate degrees in law and economics, Alain Sussfeld is a graduate of IEP (Sciences Po Paris) and has been named “Officier de la Légion d’Honneur.” He is Chairman and Administrator of several film and television producer, copyright and transmission rights organizations, as well as a film financing bank.
