To our American Club of Paris community:
Even amidst the current chilly temperatures, memories of our seasons opening events such as our celebrated La Rentrée Cocktail that took place on a balmy September summer evening in the majestic garden of Le Cercle are as vivid as if it was just yesterday. Yet an astounding and vastly diverse eleven events later we do wonder just where the time has gone …
So, as we review the year so far, we could not be any more thankful nor thrilled for the ever-growing community that is the American Club of Paris, a fine group of individuals from near and far, from different cultural and political backgrounds, coming together to inspire and to be inspired, to expand horizons and to enjoy the simple pleasures of life: good company!
And before we yet again welcome the holidays and a new year filled with exciting and exclusive events, we invite you to sit back and enjoy our winter newsletter full of cherished memories of the past few months!
Happy Holidays from all of us to all of you!
Member Spotlight In this edition of our Member Spotlight we are delighted to introduce you to newly joined members Dan Gundrum and Stephen Apking. Where are you (originally) from and what has brought you to Paris? Stephen is from Cincinnati, OH – Dan is from Pittsburgh, PA. We have been coming to Paris since Graduate School at the University of Virginia. We are both Architects, both Masters of Architectural History. For the past 30 years we have been in Paris at least once a year, typically around the time of the Biennale des Antiquaries at the Grand Palais. We are pretty involved in the art world and in the past few years have been attending FIAC ( now Art Basel ) in Paris, as well as Paris Photo, plus the galleries. The 2016 Cy Twombly retrospective at the Centre Pompidou was a high point of one of our trips. But New York City has been our great adventure during our professional lives. We are now turning our, almost full time, focus to Paris. As newly joined members we first off want to welcome you to the American Club of Paris. How did you hear about us and what made you to apply for membership? The Club was recommended to us by friends who are members. We have met a lot of fun people already through the Club. Looking forward to our continuing association with the Club and its members. The lunch-lectures are favorites of ours. Everyone we have met has been very welcoming. Please share a memory of an event that stood out for you. What made it special? The Thanksgiving Gala was a great night out. We enjoyed a familiar menu with people we are getting to know. Lots of fun - and a Polar Bear. You are currently splitting your time between NYC and Paris, but are considering a permanent move to the City of Lights. Please do tell us more! We are spending more and more time in France. We recently received our long-stay Visas and will be in Paris most of the year, other than the summer when the beach beckons. Paris in a few words? We are always happy in Paris. Closed on our apartment here six years ago. Glad to finally have a permanent home in France and settling into our place in the 7th. |
A Few Memories From Past Events |
Luncheon with former Ambassador Gérard Araud - September 8th, 2022
We kicked off the new club season’s luncheon series by welcoming former French Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Gérard Araud. In an intimate talk about his long-standing admiration for one of the undeniably greatest (albeit polarizing) actors in foreign policy, Henry Kissinger, Ambassador Araud spoke to us about what ultimately encouraged the writing of his book aptly titled Henry Kissinger – Le diplomat du siècle.
La Rentrée Cocktail - September 12th, 2022 On a beautiful late summer evening we welcomed over 110 members and guests in the picturesque gardens of Le Cercle de l’Union Interalliée and opened the new 2022/2023 Club season sipping champagne over the sounds of smooth jazz in the company of old and new friends (many of whom have since become members).

Mr. Servan-Schreiber openly shared the wins he has celebrated, the losses he’s endured and his continued and relentless efforts preventing the pillage of sacrilegious Hopi treasures.
