With three decades of experience working for the Financial Times across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Victor has been serving as the Paris bureau chief since January 2019. Prior to that, based in Hong Kong since 2016 where he held the coveted position of Asia news editor, his previous posts include South Asia bureau chief in New Delhi, bureau chief in Madrid and Paris correspondent.
He twice won the Society of Publishers in Asia Award for opinion writing and was awarded the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism as a foreign correspondent in 2012 and 2015.
His latest book is River of Life, River of Death: The Ganges and India’s Future. The Trouble with Tigers, his highly praised analysis of the south-east Asian industrial revolution and the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis, was first published in 1999.
