invites you to a private guided tour (in English) of
Georgia O'Keeffe
(1887 - 1986)
Georgia O'Keeffe, "Inside Red Canna", 1919
Undeniably one of the greatest figures in 20th century North American art, Georgia O'Keeffe's artistic power is derived from her mastery of the essential elements of art making: line, color and composition. Having lived through the aesthetic adventures of the last century, her work continuously reinvented itself whereby the way "nature", and in particular flowers and landscapes, made her feel became the focal point of her work. As the first-ever retrospective to be held in France, the exhibition at the Centre Pompidou brings to life the complexity and iconographic richness of O'Keeffe's work, chronologically unveiling her artistic trajectory: from the early "cosmic" fevers inspired by the vastness of the Texas plains in 1910, to the skyscrapers of New York City and the barns of Lake George in the 1920s-1930s, to New Mexico, where O'Keeffe settled after World War II. For the generation of 1960s feminist artists, O'Keeffe was seen as an "icebreaker", paving the way for recognition of art that is no longer necessarily related to the gender of its creator. Don't miss the chance for a private, guided tour (in English) featuring a complete review of Georgia O'Keeffe's artistic career.
