is pleased to invite you to a luncheon with special guest
Slawomir Czarlewski
Former Polish Ambassador to Belgium
He will speak to the Club (in French) on:
The European Union and Poland's position in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine
Poland, with its 38M inhabitants, bordering Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine and Belarus as well Lithuania and Russia, is the largest former Eastern Bloc country and a member of NATO since 1999 and the European Union since 2004.
As a country that has historically seen numerous territorial changes and with them, a flux in migration and immigration, Poland has a unique view on the current situation in Ukraine.
Join us as Ambassador Czarlewski shares with us the Polish view on the consequences of Russia's raging war on Ukraine.
Slawomir Czarlewski, diplomat, jurist, theorist and political scientist with a degree in 20th century history from Sciences Po Paris, has for decades been a loyal servant to Poland. As an active member of the anti-communist opposition in the late 70's and a senior official in Solidarność, the independent self-governing trade union "Solidarity" led by Nobel Prize laureate Lech Walesa. In the 80's, Czarlewski co-founded Solidarność Coordination Committees in Paris and Brussels. He went on to work with the Polish Catholic Mission in France and was editor of the magazine Glos Katolicki.
In the early 90's, Ambassador Czarlewski was appointed Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lyon, followed by his election as Ministre Plénipotentiaire at the Polish Embassy in Paris. What followed were various assignments at the France-Poland Foundation for Europe, the European Solidarność Center in Gdansk and the Polish Library in Paris, to name a few.
In June 2007 Slawomir Czarlewski was named Polish Ambassador to Belgium, a post he held until February 2012. Today Ambassador Czarlewski acts as a director and strategic advisor for Belgian, French and Polish companies. He continues to live in both France and Poland.
